All aboard the Empire Builder, one of Amtrak’s iconic trains, traversing the scenic route from Chicago to Seattle. This captivating 3-day, 2-night journey will take us along the top of the United States.

Departing from Chicago’s Union Station, we’ll head north toward Minneapolis-St. Paul. As we wake on the second day, we’ll already be cutting across the rolling North Dakota plains. Continuing into Montana, we enter Big Sky country before reaching one of the highlights of the trip: Glacier National Park. As we crossed the park, the sun began to set, illuminating amazing views as we traversed and clime our way through. The next morning, we travel through the Cascade Tunnel before pulling into Seattle in the early afternoon.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip on the Empire Builder. As a child, my family took a multi-day journey on the California Zephyr, another iconic Amtrak route. Although the rooms seemed larger back then, the accommodations were still comfortable. Traveling by train across the country was incredibly relaxing, with no rush or worry, and views that are spectacular. Despite the longer travel time compared to flying, I believe this is the ideal way to travel and explore.
