It’s Monday morning, and I’m diving into Week 2 of my Six Weeks Off with a thrilling journey on the Rocky Mountaineer! On this train, I’ll be whisked away from the stunning coast of British Columbia, and though the majestic Rocky Mountains of Alberta. This two-day train adventure promises breathtaking views, top-notch service, and mouth-watering food. Can you tell I’m a bit of a train trip enthusiast? 😉
With no sleeping cars on this train, our first stop tonight will be in the charming town of Kamloops, British Columbia. Tomorrow, we’ll continue our epic journey into the heart of the Rockies, arriving in the picturesque town of Banff, Alberta. I’m so excited to share every moment of this incredible experience with you!
All Aboard!
Are those bagpipes I hear?! Yes they are! The day begins at the Rocky Mountaineer station, when it’s time to board the bagpipes sing their song and leads out onto the platform where we are greeted by our train. The rail cars a mix of single and double level, all painted in beautiful blue, gold. We are making our way to Carr 12 a two-story car at the very end of the train. we are greeted by our car attendance for the next two days, Jacques, Taylor, Toni and KP. They would work hard to make this an unforgettable trip.
Once onboard and settled into our seats, we were off, snaking our way out of Vancouver and across one of three rivers we would be following on our journey to Banff. The Fraser River, with powerful currents and scenic beauty. As we traveled along, the landscape transformed from the sprawl of Vancouver to the greenery of the Fraser Valley.
Today’s trip was nothing short of magical. We were treated to breathtaking views of the Coastal Mountains, their peaks towering majestically against the sky. With the train’s large glass-domed windows providing an amazing view of the scenery, making every moment a picture-perfect memory.
As we continued, we passed through Hell’s Gate, where the river narrows and the water churns with incredible force. KP and Toni shared fascinating stories about the region’s history and the creation and challenges that faced the trans Canada railroad, adding context to the beauty outside.
The day concluded in Kamloops, a small town where we stopped for the night. The next morning, we’ll resumed our journey though the rockys to Banff.
